Do This One Thing If Your TCL TV Isn’t Playing Sound
Do This One Thing If Your TCL TV: TCL TVs eventually experience the same problem of no sound or no sound working. The problem has been reported by countless TCL TV owners – some say they have dealt with it for years!
The good news is that there is a simple fix that should resolve about 80% or more of the sound problems with TCL TVs.
How to fix TCL TV no sound
If you cannot hear any sound on your TCL TV, you need to reset it. You must unplug your TV for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. When you are prompted, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect your TV after a minute. The TV will be soft reset and the sound will be fixed!
Unplug TCL TV from wall
Although it may seem obvious, unplugging your TCL TV from the wall socket is usually the easiest way to fix this issue. Make sure that you wait the full 60 seconds. Ensure it has been at least one minute before plugging it back in. If your TCL TV is unplugged, hold the power button for 30 seconds while it is unplugged.
You should be holding the power button on your TV, not the remote! The TV will be able to soft reset itself after this step, allowing residual power to be drained. Switching on and off the remote is not enough! The sound should start playing again when you plug the TV back in.
Approximately 80% of these issues can be solved with this fix, but the remaining 20% may be a bit trickier. You can try the fixes detailed below if you are still having trouble getting your TCL TV sound working.
TCL TV power cord needs to be reseated at the back
You can also try unplugging the power cord from the back of the TV to resolve the problem. Make sure the connection is tight when you plug it back in. It is imperative that the connection is as tight as possible to ensure the TV receives stable power.
The TV should be powered on using the television power button, not the remote! Plug the power cord back in and power on the TV! Hopefully you can hear the sound coming from the TV again once it comes back to life. During the process of reseating the power cord, you might want to disconnect and reconnect ALL your TV’s connections.
Update TCL TV software
Running old versions of TCL software on your TV can cause a variety of problems.
Typically, your TV will automatically download the latest version for you, but sometimes that doesn’t happen. If you have a TCL Roku TV, you can update your software manually by hitting the Home button, Settings, then checking for updates.
- Use your remote control to go home
- control and select Settings
- Settings Settings. Click System Update under the System menu.
- This menu shows the current OS version of your TV. Choose this option.
- From here, you’ll find a screen that automatically checks for system updates.
Changing the sound settings on your TCL TV
There is a setting on your TV that allows you to turn the speakers off. It’s helpful when, for instance, you’re using a sound-bar. The TCL TV will have no sound if there is no sound bar and the TV speakers are off. Press HOME on the remote to turn your TV speakers on.
Then click on Audio under Settings. Click on Speakers and lastly TV speakers. checked! Checked! Press HOME once more. Select the Audio setting from the Settings menu. To resolve your sound problems, set it to Auto if it’s not. Switch to PCM-STEREO if it was on Auto.
Factory reset your TCL TV
You could try factory resetting your TCL TV if it still doesn’t have sound. You may have to reinstall several of your apps since this will restore your TV to its original settings. The home button needs to be pressed five times plus the up arrow plus the fast forward button in order to restart the system on a Roku TCL TV whose screen is green and frozen. There will be several times when the TV will freeze and turn on and off. It should be working again after a minute or so.
Factory reset TCL TV without remote
You will usually find the reset button right next to your RCA, HDMI, and USB ports. Some are located on the left side, or underneath the front panelling. Start by looking for a small reset button after you have located these ports. To give you a better idea of what you’re searching for, I’ve provided a few examples of where the TCL TV reset button can be found below.
To fix the problem if you can’t find it, try holding the button for a few seconds. This may need to be repeated three or four times. Trying pressing and releasing the reset button rapidly 20 to 30 times may help. We know, this sounds crazy, but it does the trick.
