Easy Way To Shut Off The Screen For Echo Show!

Easy Way To Shut Off The Screen For Echo Show: The Amazon Echo Show is a great smart hub with tons of amazing functionality.

Unfortunately, sometimes you don’t want it on. Here are a few ways to turn off the screen of the Echo Show when it’s nighttime, and you need to sleep or in the morning when it’s too bright.

Turn off the screen completely with Echo Show.

Alexa can be asked to turn off your Echo Show screen simply by saying, “Alexa, turn it off.” You’ll need to use the wake word again to re-wake your Echo Show when it responds to this command. Occasionally, though, getting ready for bed might require you to go a step further. This is where the Do Not Disturb feature comes in handy.

DON’T DISTURB, Alexa

When you are going to bed and do not want to be woken up by an alert on your Echo Show, and you want the screen off, turn on Do Not Disturb. You can tell your Echo Show not to disturb by saying “Alexa, Do Not Disturb.”. It will dim the screen, showing just the clock, and automatically block all notifications.

The Do Not Disturb feature can also be activated by swiping down on the screen and clicking it. Because the screen shows the clock, it will remain partially lit; however, you can turn it completely black if you want. You can do it from Settings, then Clock & Photo Display. Select the Ambient Clock option at the bottom. It’s that simple!

Your Echo Show will now completely black out the next time you say “Alexa, Do Not Disturb,” and any incoming notifications will be blocked. Using her wake word or touching the display will turn your Echo Show back on. The next time you use her, turn off Do Not Disturb mode to ensure you do not miss any messages!

Brightness can be adjusted

The display of your Echo Show can be controlled in a few other ways if you aren’t looking to turn it off completely. The brightness slider can easily be slid down by swiping down from the top. You can dim or brighten the screen by sliding the slider to the left or right.

This method has the disadvantage of requiring constant brightness adjustment throughout the day. You may have to manually increase the brightness later if you dim the screen significantly in the evening or early in the morning.

Amazon introduced a great feature called Adaptive Brightness to deal with this problem. Toggle Adaptive Brightness on by navigating to Settings, then Display & Brightness. Echo Show’s Adaptive Brightness automatically adjusts the screen brightness depending on the ambient light available. You probably also noticed the Sunrise Effect in the Display & Brightness menu.

The Sunrise Effect will gradually increase the brightness of your Echo Show screen for 15 minutes before it goes off to set the alarm for 4:00 am- 9:00 am if you enable it. As part of this feature, your Echo Show slowly turns on before you get out of bed, so you don’t wake up to completely blinding light.

Final Thoughts

There are times when you want to dim or turn off the display of the Echo Show, which is a great device. Alexa can be instructed to turn off the Echo Show by simply saying, “Alexa, turn off the screen.” Your Echo Show display will go completely black after using this command.

If you touch the display or type the wake word, it will turn back on again. You can also turn off the screen completely by toggling off the Ambient Clock first, then using the “Alexa, do not disturb” command. You will be able to shut off the display completely, and all incoming alerts will be automatically blocked.

This is ideal when you are trying to sleep and don’t want to be woken up in the middle of the night. You can adjust brightness in a couple of other ways if you don’t want to turn the screen off completely. You can adjust the screen’s brightness by swiping down on the screen and using the brightness slider.
